What age does competitive soccer begin?
· MYSA sponsors leagues for U9 and older, however, it is common for U8 players to “play up” with the U9 teams (i.e. these players play 2 years in the U9 league.
· U8, U9, U10 are the most common ages for children to move from Rec to Competitive.
How is competitive organized?
· Spring/Summer - MYSA publishes a regular season schedule, typically 10-12 games from early May to Late July.
· Fall – MYSA publishes a regular season schedule, typically 6 games during Sept and Oct. Fall is a lower commitment, shorter season.
What are the details for the age groups?
U8-10
· Levels of play-Maroon & Gold
· Competitive games (i.e. winners and losers)
· Non-competitive leagues (i.e. no league standings or playoffs)
· 6vs6 games, no offsides

Can my child play with their friends?
· At the younger ages, playing with friends can sometimes be accommodated. However, as children mature and skills change there can be significant movement of players between teams.
How are the kids placed on teams?
What are the season commitments?
When are practices & games?
· Spring/Summer – Pre-season indoor practices are held on a published schedule. The schedule is published in Jan or Feburary. Typically there is one weekday and one weekend commitment.
· When the weather allows outdoor practices most teams follow the MYSA playing nights. Based on Age and Level of Play, playing nights are either M&W or Tu&Th. Teams will typically either have a game or practice on MYSA playing nights. Most coaches will also include a weekend practice; typically either Sat AM or Sun PM.
· Fall follows a different schedule with games on the weekend and 1-2 practices during the week.
What if a game or practice is missed?
· CC United expects a higher level of commitment from it’s travelling players. Occasional excused absences are always tolerated. However, unexcused absences or chronic excused absences can result in reduced playing time.
Where do the teams "travel" to?
· Typically CC United teams are placed in the West district. Our opponents extend North to Plymouth/Orono, South to Shakopee, East to South Minneapolis, and West to Waconia.
Are there tournaments out of town?
· Most coaches will schedule 1-3 weekend tournaments to supplement the regular season. These are typically around the 5 county metro area, but with a consensus, can include Rochester or Duluth. Costs are typically $25-40/player per tournament
What is the cost?
· A non-refundable first installment (2010 Season was $100) must accompany your child's registration.
· The balance due varies based on level of play and age; $300-$500
· Fall is ~$150
Why are tryouts held in August, this is the only month we have off!!
-
Section 1.3.4.1 of the MYSA rules manual prohobits tryouts until after August 1st or conclusion of the state tournament.
-
MN High School Atheletics Association prohibits contact between HS players and their clubs during the HS season
-
These two rules effectively create a 1-2 week window in which tryouts can be held
-
The only other option would be to have tryouts in the Winter; this would be unfair as many children may not have touched a soccer ball for months.
Are there other costs??
· Uniforms are ~$100
· Tournaments are typically $30/player
· “Slush” funds of $5/player are often established by the team manager
· Players are expected to provide their own shingards, cleats, and ball
